WEDDING RECEPTIONS
The wedding reception is your party, where you get to dance with your friends and family to all your favorite songs. One of the best ways to keep the dance party going is to maintain the energy level of the music using a technique known as harmonic mixing, where the DJ matches songs based on tempo and key, and then uses tools in real-time to transition smoothly from one song to the next without letting the music fade out. Harmonic mixing is both art and science, requiring a working knowledge of music theory along with the ability to execute complex mixing techniques live, and when it is done properly the crowd never wants to leave the dance floor.
Most weddings follow the tradition of one slow song every twenty to thirty minutes, with a total dancing duration of two to three hours, so I typically perform five or six sets depending on the overall reception event schedule. The small sample of mixes listed below came from multiple weddings where they were performed and recorded live using Traktor Pro, NI Z2 mixer and F1 controllers, and turntables with Traktor control vinyl. Each mix was created based on a list of requested songs from the bride and groom so there are some really fun combinations in there.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Music sets the tone at special events, whether it is a Black Tie Formal, Prom, birthday party, or anything in between. For special events, I work with the event coordinator in advance to determine what they want to hear and to review any applicable music guidelines. Most often they provide a short list of songs as an example, and I then add similar songs and propose a set list so that any course corrections can be made as needed. Attendees will often make special song requests which I am typically able to do, within the guidelines of the event.
If the special event has a dance floor, I use harmonic mixing (described above) to keep the dance floor packed since nothing will clear out a dance floor faster than letting a song fade out.
